Rounds have been held roughly every two years from first in 1964 to 18th in 1998. There is no pre-determined or statutory interval between them. Before a Round is announced, Government officials talk to companies to discuss areas of potential prospectivity. Sometimes this process has taken form of a formal 'nominations stage'. Officials then consult with other Government Departments and various NGOs who may also have an interest to establish whether it is practicable to licence requested blocks.

Round 3

Award date 1970, 106 Blocks in SNS, NNS and IS.

Round 4

Award date 1971/72, 282 Blocks in SNS, NNS and West of Shetlands (WoS).

Round 5

Award date 1977/78, 44 Blocks in SNS, NNS, IS. SW Approaches, W. Scotland.

Round 6

Award date 1978/79/80, 42 Blocks in SNS, NNS, IS, SW Approaches, W.Shetlands, Cardigan Bay, Bristol Channel.

Round 7

Award date 1980/81, 90 Blocks in SNS, NNS, EC, SW Approaches, W.Shetlands.

Round 8

Award date 1983, 70 Blocks in SNS, NNS, IS, W.Shetlands, E.Shetlands, Bristol Channel.

Round 9

Award date 1985, 93 Blocks in SNS, NNS, IS, EC, SW Approaches, W.Shetlands, W.Scotland.

Round 10

Award date 1987, 51 Blocks in SNS, NNS,W.Shetlands.

Round 11

Award date 1989, 109 Blocks in SNS, NNS, CNS, IS, Manx Basin, EC, Cardigan Bay, Shetland Area.

Round 12

Round 13

Round 14 (Phases I & II)
